The Coolest Grill We've Ever Seen: The Element by Fuego

2009_06_22-Fuego.jpgWhen you think of sleek and beautiful design, grills are not the first thing that come to mind. They tend to be bulky, awkward, and monochromatic. So when we heard a rumor of a grill designed by the former director of industrial design for Apple, we were totally intrigued.

2009_06_22-Fuego02.jpgThe grill, it turns out, is a new mass market grill from Fuego, who makes high-end grills and outdoor entertaining setups. This new grill, the Element, is designed and priced for the mass market.

It was designed by Robert Brunner, who used to be the Director of Industrial Design at Apple. (We are definitely Apple fans around here, and we're curious to see what kind of parallels we can draw between our iPhone and this grill. Is there just one big button on it? Oh look — why yes!)

The grill is available in July, and it will be priced in the low hundreds — affordable for a good back deck grill. We're very intrigued by some of the add-on options for this gas grill: a pizza stone, a prep tray, and a lid for roasting. It seems functional and attractive for year-round cooking.

We're going to try it out, though, and give you our thoughts once we've taken it for a spin. Can a grill be gorgeous and functional? Stay tuned!

looks lovely, but is there a decent grill under $200 for a broke-just-graduated student?

That is very cook and sleep. I love it as I love Apple anything.

This grill is very nicely done! Looks like a good small-footprint alternative to the typical product in this category. However, not to disparage Mr. Brunner's successful career, but he left Apple in 1997, succeeded by Jonathan Ive. All of Apple's product since the candy-colored iMacs of 1998 were developed under Ive's direction.

I checked out their website....how big is the thing? The 20 inch pizza stone kind of makes me think that it's only 20 inches in diameter. That's kind of (and by kind of I mean REALLY) small for a $400 grill (at the minimum)

I love it, as it's not hideous and would fit perfectly on my balcony. I do prefer (of course) the $600 one- which seems a bit pricey for the size.

I think the hubby would adore this, though.

Looks great! We're big fans of Apple too. I'll fwd this to my husband, he'll love it for sure. Apartment living means I can only have an electric grill though. I once saw a really tall and stainless steel looking one on Oprah (some chef was making a paella on it) but I have not been able to find one. THAT is a post I'd love to read. I need help finding an electric grill ;)

@valeriam01
Try a Weber Baby Q grill. The basic runs about ~$140 and I think you can get it as either gas (that's what I have and it works just fine for me) or as a charcoal grill (it's a different option I *think*) - it's nowhere near as stylish but it's under 200 and well made.
