Rehabilitated Dishware by Sarah Cihat

2008_06_16-SarahCihat.jpgArtist Sarah Cihat likes to take old dishes and give them a new life.

She buys second hand dishware at thrift stores and then gives them a fresh coat of paint and applies various designs to them. We think this is a great idea - why throw out old, "out of style" things that are still functional when you can give them a new look? People reupholster furniture, so why not dishes?

I really like the spider but I would hesitate to create something like that if I entertained a lot, I can just see someone casually picking up the plate and then noticing the spider only to drop my masterpiece on the floor. It's still cool though.

I don't want to eat off plates that have bugs on them of any sort, especially not spiders.

Gives me the heebee jeebees just to think about it.
