If you are thinking about signing up for a summer CSA share, now's the time. Just Food, a nonprofit organization that's leading the charge for a more sustainable, healthy food system in New York City, hosts an annual CSA conference that can give you a lot of information. Details below...
It is geared towards people who want to grow their CSA community; there will be discussions about starting a meat share and keeping volunteers engaged. But there will also be farmers on hand to answer questions about preserving your vegetables and fruit from week to week. The keynote speaker is Cheryl Rogowski, a radio host, farmer in Pine Island, NY, and MacArthur award winner.
We just want a t-shirt with that logo on it...

I've been thinking about joining a CSA, but as I live alone I'm concerned about the amount of produce and the possible waste.

I joined mine last week! After researching it abd following bloggers who joined one last year, I decided to join this year. Yay!
MPW- often the farmers will tell you what they *expect* your box to contain ahead of time, that way you can meal plan for that box. Of you could split it with a friend. Or buy a half share. One thing is for sure, you have to like veggies!

Hi -
I was at a CSA meeting last night and heard the amazing news that there are (likely) over 20 new CSA's starting up this season. These new CSA's are not yet listed on the Just Food website - so if you can't find one near you, or the nearest one is all booked up - contact Just Food to see if there are any others you could join.
