Etsy Find: Recycled Soda Bottle Glasses

2009_03_11-bottleglasses1.jpgEver since we saw these recycled Sol beer glasses from Marfa Brands over at Apartment Therapy, we've been mildly obsessed with finding an online source (Marfa doesn't sell them through their website). These come close, and they're fun for all ages.

Etsy seller YAVA Glass makes these little drinking glasses out of recycled Boylans Soda bottles. The tops are cut off and the edges are polished smooth. We love the graphic quality, and they're a great size for almost anything- juice, wine, milk, water. The fact that they're made from recycled materials is a nice bonus.

YAVA Glass makes larger glasses out of wine bottles and liquor bottles (Grey Goose highball, anyone?), and there are also beer glasses from recycled Coronas and Red Stripes. They actually make a Sol version similar to Marfa's but slightly bigger.

For a cleaner look, we also like these clear glasses, made from IBC Creme Soda bottles.

Buy them here:
Boylans Soda Glasses, $24 for a set of four at YAVA Glass's Etsy shop
IBC Creme Glasses, $24 for a set of four
Large Sol Glasses, $24 for a set of two

I have friends who use the old Pom glasses as their drinking glasses. (It's a lot cheaper!)

it looks like there's a lip on all of those glasses, suggesting that they're doing more than just polishing the edges... wondering what, exactly?

I the 70's there was a ronco glass cutter for making bottles into drinking glasses that was advertised constantly on tv. Everyone remotely crafty got one for Chrismas.

It says flame cut, so I would assume that is giving the bit of rolled rim to them, rather than a straight glass cutter.

The Green Glass Co. was the first place I saw this process be made and sold.

3 or 4 years ago I sent a set of wine glasses for a wedding gift.

I bought my mom some wine glasses for Christmas made from recycled wine bottles. I got them on Etsy from a seller called Re-Wined Recycled Glassware (love the name). http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5685905

Does a glass cutter leave a sharp edge or could you drink out of it?
