Conscientious Cook: The Green Guide's Plastic Chart

2007_09_28-Plastic.jpgPlastic is ubiquitous and seemingly indispensable in the kitchen. Certain plastics, however, have been getting a bad rep lately. The phthalates in many plastics are being linked to health problems and fertility issues. We always feel a little weary at every new health scare - really, who can keep up with them all? But we are still trying to become a little more aware of the plastics we use.

This PDF from The Green Guide is a great initial resource. Plastic Products at a Glance is a guide to some of the most common plastic food storage products. It rates their safety and shows which kind of plastic is in each. Also check out their articles on plastic water bottles and the safest reusable plastics.

I've in the middle of a 30 day project: Life Without Plastic where we avoid buying plastic at all costs. This post gives some great information that I will definitely pass on in my blog. Thank you for finding this!
