Scouting for a cake pan for a friend's child's birthday, we were frustrated by the lack of options in the stores. There were few available, and they were expensive - especially for what would probably be a one-time use purchase. Also, nearly everything was heavily branded with popular children's product marketing - Dora the Explorer, Cars, Batman. We avoid this stuff as much as possible - we just wanted a basic elephant pan.
Too bad we don't live near the public library of Hubbard, Ohio. They don't just offer books - they offer children's cake pans that can be checked out of the library for that special, one-time-only birthday cake. We think this is rather brilliant - one less thing for parents to buy and a good community service.

What a great idea!

Whoever thought this up deserves a medal from the ALA.

It's cute, but I'm a little weirded out by it. I mean, I like the idea; I just come conditioned from the you-can't-bake-things-at-home-and-bring-them-to-school-for-kids era of the 90s. It just seems strange that you can check out baking pans at a public library.

I love this idea, and as a board member of our local toy library, I am going to suggest we do the same thing....I own several of these pans that I use once a year and would love to share them with others who would put them to good use.
