Speaking of garlic, if you are here in NYC, you MUST get garlic from a farmer named Keith (roughly in front of Republic noodle) -- it's an heirloom breed he smuggled in from Italy years back, and it is absolutely delicious!!!!!
For years, I had a postcard stuck to my fridge that had a beautiful black and white photograph of a head of garlic and a single, eloquent line of copy:
"Garlic is the ketchup of intellectuals."
I would have said tomato and basil make it italian
