Good Question: Where Can I Find Spice Jars Like These?

2008_04_07-Jars.jpgHi ATers, I recently saw a commercial for (totally unrelated) one of those personal label makers. And the commercial shows a woman in her kitchen which, along with her, is totally disheveled until, of course, she gets her hands on one of these label makers. After she and her kitchen pull it together, they show a shot of the contents of her kitchen cabinets. In the cabinet is a set of beautiful spice jars... I WANT THEM! They're cylindrical glass jars with a flat cork top, modern and sleek without being glass & chrome.

Any idea what I'm talking about? Where can I find them? The attached photo is from Bodum and the smallest they make is an 8oz. That's a lot of spice!! HELP!

2008_04_07-Spices.jpgAmanda, you have us semi-stumped on this. We found some options that are close but not quite what you're looking for.

We found these 5 ounce jars and wood lids but they may not be as sleek as you'd like.

There's also a new lab-inspired solution: Wickwood wooden spice rack. (Pictured above.)

If you're willing to abandon the wood tops and go with metal instead then IKEA has the DROPPAR line.

Readers - we throw this out to your collective Googling power!

They are Bodum storage jars, but these don't have cork tops.

The lids are not cork, but beechwood. Nobody seems to stock anything other than the medium size (20oz)

I saw some of these jars just yesterday at The Container Store. They don't appear to be available online, but I remember looking at them and thinking, "Oh cool, storage jars by Bodum." Good luck with your search!

We have some of these - they're great but very hard to find. I thought the wood might absorb odors from the food we store in them, but so far we've had no problems with that. Let me know if you locate a good online source that ships to Canada!

We bought one of the Bodum cork top containers from the Container Store for our Q-tips in the bathroom... The idea of the container is ok but the cork is not sturdy enough to stand up to daily opening and shutting. The rubber gasket pulls on the flimsy cork when you pull off the top and the cork broke. So we went back and got a different container without the rubber gasket.
The wood version lid would be better I think. Or a plastic version.

if you must have cork and can't find it, i remember the ace hardware store in my hometown would custom cut corks for any jar you had. you could buy glass jars that make sense for you and source corks on your own.

Even though these are a different shape, depending on the cupboard situation I might rather like these wider tureen jars. They have wide mouths so they'd be great for whole spices.

Bodum did use to make them with wooden lids. I've been drooling over them for a while, but there's no way I trust the hubby with glass storage jars. Thin glass storage jars, while we're at it.
