Looking for some recipes: How about a nice spiced wine? I've had it at Scandinavian homes, but never made it myself. And thinking about holiday drinks, maybe Coquito (the Puerto Rican eggnog) or Punch Coco, the French Caribbean version.
Thanks!
Guido
Guido, Sounds like you're ready to have a party! I'm not a spiced wine or eggnog kind of girl, but I know there are some true aficionados out there who might be able to help us out... anybody...?

My fave cold weather drink is a Hot Appple Pie. Mix 1 1/2 oz. Tuaca with 6 oz. hot apple cider
Serve with a dollop of fresh whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Here's a link to a recipe from Scandinavian New Cooking on PBS.

It looks good!!
I've actually made Punch Coco, but I forget what I did!
It is *incredible* - we served it over crushed ice and swooned...
condensed milk? what kind of coconut? steeped with nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla...
and rum from Martinique
Hi Guido, here is a simple recipe for spiced wine. Combine a bottle of generic red wine with two Oranges, a few Tablespoons of Sugar with Cinnamon, Cloves and Nutmeg to taste. Let it stew for a few minutes, pour into glasses and top with a splash of Brandy. All the ingredients can be varied to taste. Keep a watchful eye on the wine and never let it boil, just a slow simmer for a few minutes will do the job.
Ps: Not that I need to point this out but the oranges should be peeled and cut into segments.
I just made Glogg (mulled wine) yesterday and it was really yummy and I got many compliments at the party I took it to.
I used the recipe (doubled it) out of the back of the Everyday Food magazine and additionally added a bottle of port. It was so tasty it didn't seem to need to be mulled for weeks. It's nice to know it's easy to make up quickly.
How about with the peels on the orange...or even just orange peels? That is what's in my memory . . . and whole spices . . .
what kind of red did you use?
And I'm guessing bad in = bad out, but with all the spicing...
love the idea of port into the mix - there's a new zealand or aussie port that's cheap and pretty good that would work great for this
I bought Charles Shaw Beaugolais $2.99 wine from Trader Joe's and the cheapest $12 port at the grocery store. The recipes I read say that the spices cover over the complexity of any fancy wine. Go cheap.
It helps if you put the spices into a little muslin bag and that way you don't get any crud in your glass..
We improvised a spiced wine for our holiday party on Sunday, and it was a big hit. In a crock pot, I poured a 5 liter box of Franzia Burgundy wine (oh yes), and a 750 ml bottle of cheap blackberry brandy. Added a sliced orange with the rind on, several pods of star anise, a couple of sticks of cinnamon and whole nutmeg, and kept it at low temperature for several hours. Dee-licious, and got everybody drunk too.
