Good Question: Replacement Glass Liner for Butter Dish?

2008_08_14-ButterDish.jpgHere's a question from reader L.:

I've been searching for replacement glass liners for a rectangular covered silver butter dish forever, but haven't had any luck. Do you know where I can find them?

That's a tricky question, L.! We think your best bet is Replacements.com, a repository of pretty much every china pattern and silver set known to man. You can see one possible replacement here:

1/4 Pound Butter Liner

The only problem is that you have to ask them for a quote and often these come back astronomically high. If you are very keen on finding just the right replacement, we would recommend going this route, though.

If you don't mind a different yet similar liner, we would recommend buying a whole new set and using the new glass liner. You can use the leftover butter dish for decoration or serving small condiments and nuts. This may be a much more economical route. Also try checking at thrift stores and flea markets.

Good luck! Any more reader ideas for L.?

That seems like something that you'll always just have to "keep your eye out for" every time you stop at a flea market, yard sale or thrift store. Just keep the dimensions or a small photo in your wallet.
