Here's another colorful kitchen question to go along with this morning's paint color advice. This one is from reader Marina, and she's looking for some colorful kitchen tea towels.
My teensy kitchen recently got all new stainless steel appliances. I don't consider "steel" a color and, as you can see, I love color. I've searched all over for some one-of-a-kind, bold, bright, op art, mod, retro, over the top dish towels (also known as tea towels). The options I've found are bleak. Either solid colors, dated stripes, or chickens (no way in heck).

I love to cook and I've gone green and mostly given up paper towels, so these towels should be up for a lot of use and cleaning. Getting vintage ones on Ebay hasn't worked, I want to get at least 12 and I would pretty much have to get them shipped individually, which doesn't fit with my green-ness. I was wondering if anyone knew of some that would be perfect for me and match my controlled chaos kitchen.
First off, we love your Dansk collection, Marina! Very bright and pop indeed.
It sounds like you need workhorse towels. In that case, we really do recommend IKEA and other budget spots. Look for simple green and blue towels at IKEA. The LISBET and SOMMAR towels are $3.99 for a 3-pack.
More decorative towels may not absorb so well. But we do like these skinny laminx towels from Etsy that we mentioned a litlte while ago. These are $11 apiece, though. Also, the Tikoli tea towels we posted a while back are bright and colorful. These are pictured above on the right, while the skinny laminx towel is on the left.
In the end, if you're totally giving up paper towels for practical kitchen towels, we might go with bamboo. You can see some good options in our post on bamboo textiles. You can find some bright yellow and green towels in bamboo and cotton blends. These are ultra-soft and extra absorbent.
But if all else fails, we think that you can probably find anything you want on indie craft marketplace Etsy. You might even be able to strike up a good deal for a full dozen.
i second IKEA. i have dish towels from all over the place, and those are my favorites as a group. they have nice designs (tending towards the scandinavian, of course, but that seems to match your kitchen), they have little loops so they can be hung from the hook on my fridge, AND they're inexpensive. i use mine a lot (and these in particular, since i like how they look), and these have no significant signs of wear after 5 years. even the flour-sack style ones are doing fine.

I got some bright red and orange ones from Cost Plus but they sometimes have them and sometimes don't. They'd probably match your orange pot if I'm judging the color correctly. I'll try to remember to post a photo when I get home tonight.
They were about $4 a piece, I think, and pretty absorbant.
