We're in love with these uniquely-shaped condiment dishes. They look like a terraced landscape, and are used for holding oil, vinegar, capers, spices, pickles, and whatever else is on hand.
If bread was dipped in oil, the excess oil could be squeezed off by rubbing against the "ridges" to prevent drips on clothes. In addition to being practical, they're also aesthetic; olive oil poured in them is shown off in several hues of green against the rings of the dish.
