Good Idea: Growing Strawberries in Hanging Bags

2008_05_15-StrawberryBags.jpgWe've been covering space-saving garden solutions this week, and today we're sharing another great space-saving idea: the strawberry growing bags.

Strawberries grow well in small spaces; they adapt well to containers and strawberry pots. However, growing food in containers doesn't make maximum use of available space. When you live in a small space, you need to start thinking about the available vertical space. This tall Strawberry Growing Bag can hold ten strawberry plants. Try doing that in a half whiskey barrel!

As an added bonus, growing strawberries in vertical containers is better; the strawberries hang in the air instead of sitting on the ground, so they don't have flat, mushy white sides. Also, getting them off the ground helps keep them away from nibbling critters, and helps your back and knees during harvest.

Woot... I ordered strawberries and growin bags from parkseeds.com last week, they arrived yesterday, and I planted them last night! I have an itty bitty patio, so this is the perfect solution. I'm excited to see how my strawberries fair.
