Just me and a friend. Spend part of Saturday cooking, then have someone over on Sunday. Make a few things I've made before (some mushroom soup, a quinoa salad with nuts and crunchy vegetables and maybe some dried cranberries, a cucumber salad) and try something new (that's where a new cookbook would come in). And I want to make cake-style gingerbread with homemade whipped cream.

Maybe what I'm describing isn't a dinner party, but it would make me happy. Something small and quiet. Relaxed.

my skills improved, my confidence high

I'd find my calling as social priestess
nourishing friends with fabulous dishes

so heed my call for help this xmas
don't leave me here lost with instant mixes

A friend of mine's parents used to throw an Anti Post-Holiday Depression Party every winter in mid-January. I think I'd like to start that tradition for my friends and family - good food, wine, and company as the perfect antidote to short days, little sun, and cold (or, if you live in KY, manic and frenzied) weather.

I would love to host a small fundraiser dinner for a medical center. It's focus is on serving children from birth to 18 who's family are either impoverished or are involved in the foster care system.

Each and every baby born into their services is given a handmade baby blanket. While it may not seem like a lot, it very well may be the warmest blanket the baby has. There are other programs to address medical, educational, social and psychological needs.

We donate funds and blankets as we can but it would be nice to do something a little bit more. I'll be doing the party but would love new ideas from these books and the help in planning.
