I think we will get a lot of blackberries this year if the hundreds of blooms are any indication. Last year, we transplanted a raspberry bush into the yard that we dug up from my husband's parents' yard in Staten Island and after a rocky start, has grown quite a bit as well.

Last month we planted three blueberry bushes of different varieties and they each have nearly doubled in size. I am pretty excited for the berry crop this year, even in season berries are pretty expensive and that always keeps me from experimenting with berry recipes as much as I would like. I don't think I am going to have that problem this year!

The previous owners of our house planted a plum tree which produces dozens of small plums each year. Last year we planted a variety of vegetables as well, but this year we are focusing on my favorites, tomatoes, and planted about 10 heirloom varieties. We also grow mint, thyme, Spanish lavender and giant sunflowers with edible seeds. Not bad for a city garden!

That sounds amazing. Berries would not even have occurred to us - next year! Thank you Rachel!
