Hot or Not? Ivy In the Kitchen

Wow - we saw this photo of a kitchen draped in ivy over at AT: Los Angeles, and we had to put it to a vote. We're all for herbs and other good kitchen plants in the kitchen, but aesthetics aside, how do you cooks feel about ivy and other potted plants in the kitchen?

I don't like how it hangs down into everything in that picture.

My mother has fake ivy hanging down from a display shelf that wraps around the entire kitchen, but her ceiling is so high that it doesn't get into everything. I think it makes her kitchen look dated, but she'll probably never remove the stuff.

I do like little useful potted plants in the kitchen window though. Little herb or pepper pots are useful and pretty.

My mom keeps philodendrons in pots on top of her kitchen cabinets, though she trims them before they get quite as drape-y as these. The tops are too high for her to be able to store anything, because she wouldn't be able to get it down without a ladder or at least a climb onto the counter (we always get tasked to take the plants down and out to the porch to be watered whenever we visit) and there's not enough natural light in that part of the kitchen to grow much that's less hardy. Herbs are also out because she wouldn't be able to get up to them either. But the vines in this picture do seem a bit excessive, I feel like they would keep getting caught in the door when you opened the fridge.

Live plants make me think of bugs. Not so hot in the kitchen.

Ivy attracts ants like nobody's business. I'll take a pass.

Not too fond of ivy, but I do like other plants in the kitchen (herbs, maybe some succulents, spider plant).
