Garden Tour: See Martha Stewart's Garden in the Country

2008_05_20-Martha.jpgMost of our Garden Month coverage is about the small gardens that most of us are limited to in the city. But it's fascinating to also see the sprawling country gardens of a lucky few that can really spread out and get their vegetables going. We just noticed that Martha Stewart has a big slideshow of her garden out in Bedford.

Even if we can't all have an acre of vegetables in our back yard, it's inspiring to see the bright colors and range of the growing things in Martha's garden. Above, a purple kohlrabi and join okra flowers, shishito peppers, and many more garden treasures that we've never seen up close before. Beautiful!

I seem to remember that she wrote about how she got rid of most of her vegetable garden because there was really just her to eat it... now it's back? who is going to eat all of that?

Wow, that would be a lot of work to look after too.

I always enjoy seeing photos of other people's garden, but Martha Stewart's and others similar to that I'm generally a bit skeptical. It's just not practical - It's a lot of work, maintenance, and more importantly, will all of it be eaten? I think everyone who's been using the small container gardens are doing a great job and will have just as good if not better results because gardening is really about nurturing.

Wow. Growing up, my family's vegetable garden was about a third that size, and it fed all six of us. Maybe she donates what she can't use? I can't see anyone doing all that work and then letting the end result rot in the ground.
