I'd make my grandmother's sugar cookies. Hers were light and flaky, and dusted with sugar on top. Orange zest gave the cookies some zing. No frosting; these cookies are flakey, not cakey! My grandmother died last year, and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get the recipe quite like hers. But I'm going to try.

sugar cookies with a shimmery glaze, or perhaps those decorative cinnamon cookie cutouts that look cute hanging from the tree (and make your house smell good). Love these :)

Just yesterday I took a holiday cookie baking/decorating class, so I would definitely make both gingerbread and buttery shortbread! Then I would decorate them using my newfound artsy fartsy decorating skills!

I'd make the obvious -- sugar cookies -- and let my 3-year-old decorate with sprinkles and frosting.
