A friend of mine gave me a garlic card for my birthday, although I have to admit, I have not yet used it. I always just mince it. I suppose I ought to give it a try.

I bought the garlic card from the MOMA design store but, unless I have done something wront - IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL - much better to use a knife or one of those garlic crushers...

I too like the feel of the avocado in my hand, I'm careful to use a dull knife or even a spoon. A few years ago as my boyfriend was cutting one and the knife slipped through the soft avocado and we spent the evening in the emergency room. Maybe this gadget makes it safer? Otherwise, I advise using a regular table knife since ripe avocadoes give little resistance.

I'm with you kelly, about being careful.
I have a friend who's a prof.cook & she had a similar nasty accident. I cut around the pit, separate halves then take the pit out by whacking pit with the knife, using a steady hand of course, & removing it that way.
