Cocktail Tool: Jigger Cube

We have a new cocktail column on Fridays! It's called Straight Up and it's written by Nora Maynard of Celluloid Pantry fame. Drink recipes, liquor recommendations, and all things related to cocktails - Nora will be blogging these on Friday. Look for her column a little later today. In honor of Nora's column, here's a handy little bar tool we noticed this week...

The Jigger Cube is a solid aluminum cube, 3"x3", that has sloping inner walls that measure out the "six most common liquid measures used to mix alcoholic drinks."

The designer, Josh Owen, says that he wanted to compress these 6 measurements into the smallest possible dispenser. He was inspired by traditional box-shaped Japanese sake cups, where sake is sipped from the corners.

The six measurements are .5 oz, .75 oz, 1 oz, 1.5 oz, 2 oz, and 2.25 oz. The cube weighs a full pound! There is a recipe book included which has directions for 14 favorite cocktails.

We like this stylish little cube and we like the idea of all-in-one bar measure. What do you think?

It's interesting...but it weighs a pound? I'd like to be able to actually see (and hold!) one before deciding whether to buy it. In the meantime, I'll measure like I always do - by sight and taste.

just from the picture, the 0.5 oz sure looks shallow. i have visions of spilling most of it before getting it into the shaker.

It's a really cool concept, but in reality you end up spilling your booze all over the place when you try to pour it. Your better off looking at it and using a traditional jigger.
