A Collapsible Colander from OXO

2007_08_04-colander-oxo.JPGFlat pack. Collapsible colanders are a mini-trend right now. (How many times have you seen the infomercial for the flat fold colander?)

We've been testing the OXO Good Grips Silicone Cooking Colander (Amazon.com, $19.99).

We love that it punches down and can be stored flat. We were surprised to find that it is easier to clean than our enamel colander. The colander also works as a steamer basket and can be immersed into water for blanching and parboiling.

Cooks with small kitchens may need just one colander. If you're in a one-colander household, this isn't the gadget for you. Instead go for a colander with legs to stand on its own so that you can keep both hands on the boiling pot.

Very cool concept, even if it makes me feel like I'm camping in my kitchen. I may have to pick up one for my new apartment.

This may even be better than the silicone steamer I picked up a few months ago (no center post to interfere with things like tamales).

I got one by Siliconezone and I use it several times a day. I am so glad I have it. It's made in China so maybe production killed their soulful dolphin.

I saw one at Macy's and almost bought it. Now I wish I had! My colander takes up soooo much room in my pots & pans cabinet. I could save a lot of space with that silicone one.
