Web Resource: Supercook

2008_07_01-SupercookB.jpgWhat a neat idea. Supercook is a recipe search engine that allows you to enter ingredients that you have at home and finds recipes for you that contain the ingredients you have, so you don't have to go out and shop for new items.

Usually when one does a Google search for recipes, then end up with many results, most that require more shopping. Sometimes we want to use what we have in the house, or sometimes we are doing a freezer or cupboard purge. Supercook comes in handy this way; simply enter the ingredients you want to use, and the resulting recipes will contain only those ingredients. This helps cut down on time wasted going through numerous recipes trying to find the right one.

Supercook is a search engine and crawls the Web looking for new recipes; it's not a limited database of recipes. So, whatever recipes are out there, Supercook will help find the right one for you. Need to figure out something to do with ground beef, eggplant, and garlic? Supercook found these recipes:

Northern Fried Eggplant
Aggie Pickles
Northern Stuffed Burgers

The interface is very user-friendly and easy to use. Best of all, it's free!

This is a good idea. The website cookbynumbers does something similar too

I knew if I waited long enough, somebody would finally write a usable version of this application for me.
