Happy Easter from The Kitchn

2008_03_23-Bunny.jpgThe sun is shining and it seems like a miracle. We are sitting down to a proper Easter supper of roast lamb, potatoes, sweet eggy bread, potato dough rolls, and grated horseradish. Whether you are celebrating the miracle of Easter or the miracle of early spring - both no less miraculous for their expected and anticipated arrival each year - we hope that your day is full of peace, hope, and joyful abundance.

2008_03_23-Bunny2.jpgAnd the bunny cake? The result of an extremely impulsive eBay bid last fall - a vintage cake pan that worked so well it astonished us. The cake slipped right out of the mold, ears and tail intact. We smothered it in fluffy meringue and marshmallow frosting and the quintessentially seasonal green coconut. We really couldn't help ourselves. It's a family tradition.

glazed ham and biscuits and sweet tea. i would have made collards in the broth i got after boiling the leftover ham bone, but they weren't looking so good at the local grocery store. :-/

it's good to have homey foods when you're far from home on what would normally be an incredibly food-centric family holiday.

it's also good to be allowed to share those traditions with others, even if you can't share them with your family. i took my fare to a potluck populated by predominately west-coast folks, and it was fun talking about the differences in the kinds of things our various families would eat on easter weekend!
