Maxwell and I have just opened the box containing our two new campfire grills, and it seems like an apt time to share them, along with another favorite off-the-grid style grill.

The Texsport Heavy Duty Camp Grill (available from Forestry Suppliers for $22.95) has a 16" x 24" grilling area and legs that fold underneath for compact storage. We'll be hovering these bad boys over a campfire lots this summer. Given the sad state of the grilling surface we used the last time we grilled pizza, this investment was in order. The photo above is from the catalog, and is not a represent how we are plan to cook this weekend. (Jimmy Dean links are not part of our grilling plans.)

This got me thinking about other ways of grilling without being tied to your clunky patio BBQs, or worse, some behemoth propane set-up. Last year around this time we talked about building your own grill with a terra cotta pot and that post got quite a response. One nighttime trip to Home Depot and $43 later, one of our writers built herself a grill. Although, admittedly, it was a bit heavy, it was incredibly satisfying to create and you know that's the kind of spirit we like.

Or, what about the Charcoal Bucket Grill that another writer tested on his roof last summer? That seems like a great option for grilling on-the-go, or off-the-grid.
