Ms. Rachael Ray is at it again! She just launched a line of dog food, with all the proceeds going to her charity, Rachael's Rescue. The rescue helps at-risk animals, like a terrier mix named Spirit that was on the news after being badly beaten last month. Ray's charity is covering all costs of the dog's treatment.
We've noticed pet foods featured in Ray's magazine, Every Day With Rachael Ray. Now we're curious - all you high-powered cooks, would you buy Rachael Ray food for your pets?

I would absolutely buy her pet food!
Pet food is one of the sketchiest food products on the market. It's barely regulated so that a lot of food that's not fit for humans becomes pet food instead. Cats and Dogs are getting cancer at unprecedented rates these days. I am positive it's related to a subpar food source.
I don't know about you but I want to know that I'm taking care of my pets the best that I can, that includes buying or making good, whole food for them.

The ingredients are appalling -- brewer's rice as the #2 and she claims there are no fillers? Not to mention corn gluten meal high up there, which has zero nutritional value for dogs and is a highly allergenic ingredient.

TOTALLY AWESOME. Except not.. I agree with Charliepear. Corn is non-digestable and one of the main causes of allergies in pets, as is soy (which her 'food' has in it), and come on, generic 'animal fat'?? Really? Pray tell, what kind of 'rendered' animal did this come from? And her meat protein levels are laughable. I hate to see what the cat food will look like, especially since cats are obligate carnivores.
"Don't worry, just give them some corn, they'll survive."
I wouldn't give it to my pets, under any circumstances.

Corn meal and corn gluten meal (two corn-based ingredients - one on the heels of the other in her ingredient list) is a deal breaker for me. Corn is terrible for dogs. At least rice is somewhat inert and doesn't cause major allergic issues in most dogs and cats.
I agree, there is a LOT of trash masquerading as pet food out on the market today, but this isn't an improvement over the supermarket/petsmart/petco garbage offerings.
I'm super happy with EVO dog food (kibble) and regularly feed my dog various meats, eggs and larger uncooked bones (never a cooked bone - they splinter and can cause deadly internal injuries).
I'm always happy when pet rescue gets some visibility and RR seems to be tying in her rescue charity with this roll out, but this food is no great shakes.

I'm much more concerned with which food my vet recommends for my pet than which food a cooking show host thinks I should feed him.

In my quick browse of the site I also didn't see anything about the food being AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) certified. I don't feed my dogs anything NOT AAFCO certified, and not human grade.
I'm a huge fan of Innova Evo which is grain free and as close to a raw food diet as you can get with dry dog food. I also use Merrick wet food on occasion if I am not making my own mixes and treats.
While she may be trying to do the right thing, she hasn't gone far enough for my pets. I'm also not really a fan of grocery store dog foods as most aren't AAFCO certified.

I'm so glad everyone here has posted against this new food. Rachael Ray loves her dog so much, I had high hopes for her line of pet foods (am in the pet food industry and have known about this for a while now). Boo, I say.
Never ever buy a dog food with corn or soy in it, or indeterminate ingredients, like "animal fat." There is no BHT or BHA in either food, however there is in the grill bites treats. Both these preservatives have been implicated as carcinogens--they're used in some commercial cereals, btw, like Cap'n Crunch.
Please everyone do your research before buying food for your pets. If at all possible, feed them raw. Think about how you would feel if all you ate for your entire life were hard, dry kibbles. There's a reason animals in America are afflicted by cancer, diabetes, chronic joint pain, etc. etc.

I really dislike her, and don't plan on buying anything with her on the package.
Plus as everyone else has noted, corn isn't good for dogs. Its not digestible.

Never would I buy RayRay's dogfood. Ugh.

I'm with those who were really disappointed with her food. It would have been a great thing to bring truly high quality pet food to the mass market retailers like Wal-Mart, but sadly it's just another human food-fad projected onto our pets. Not far from the Racheal Ray food were 100-calorie snack packs for dogs (100 calories is a lot for a dog snack!).
I appreciate that she's such a prominent figure who makes a really big deal of feeding her pets good food, but this isn't good food.
My dogs eat grain-free Wellness Core (the Innova Evo gave them terrible gas); my cat likes Innova Evo (I can't get her to eat wet food). It's the best I can do for them since we don't have the resources or time to raw feed.

I get my pet food from "The Wholesome Pet" which is an indie business in the small town where I work. So I cut down on the mass production, excess shipping, and help out a small business. Plus, the owner is just a charmer who gives you all sorts of pet advice. She keeps a list of the food, treats, and toys my cats liked/didn't like, so when I come in. The customer service alone is worth it, but I also love her organic pet food lines, as does our vet who approved her.
The vet, on the other hand, has not approved Ms. Ray. Sorry, but I let the animal experts guide my animal buying.
And I refuse to call anything EVOO. :-)

i am in the process of transitioning my cats to a raw food diet. just like whole, unprocessed foods are better for people, they are also better for our pets!
i am not a rr fan at all, but hoped that she would be offering something good to her legions of fans and their pets.

saw her new dog food at walmart the other day and my mum and I checked the ingredients and we saw corn and put it down and walked away. we feed our fur babies Natural Balance since the food recall a few years ago. Its about 8x more expensive than the grocery store brand but I have seen a big improvement in my dogs allergies and coat.
BUT if I could afford it I would probably buy the Dog Whisperers -Cesar Milan's new dog food that is all organic!

*Witchbaby I certainly wish you wouldn't put a price on your pet's health and wellness. If you can't "afford" to give your pet the quality food they don't just deserve, they NEED, then in my opinion I don't think you should own a pet.
I live on a budget, but I know from personal circumstance there is NOTHING more expensive than illness.
Please don't put a price cap on what you feed your pets, choose quality over quantity.

bobcatsteph3- trust me I would run into traffic to save any of my pets and anyone elses for that matter, as an only child my pets were like my siblings and they are like my children (yeah, I'm one of "those people") I'm not the one who puts a price on my 3 dogs and my 1 cats pet food- my father does. He would much rather we feed them the cheap stuff, in his mind what difference does it make. But my mum and I both agree and make sacrifices to be able to afford the $70 every month on making sure they get their Natural Balance pet food- I would love to be able to afford the ORGANIC natural balance they offer opposed to the regular natural balance they already eat but its pricier.
My family has spent over $6000 dollars in the past 5 years on emergency vet care for my pets and we have seen the difference and the fewer illnesses they have had. But with college monthly payments of over $700 every month we make sure they stay on the food they are on no matter what my father or my other family members who think we are crazy to spend that much on our pets food each month.

I read the ingrediants and I would NEVER feed my dog this brand of dog food.
