Look! All Things Pig from British TV

2009_03_18-pigbiz.jpgThe British television network Channel 4 has a fantastic website for all things pork and pig. The site supports the series The Great British Food Fight in which four well known chefs celebrate the very best of British food and explore issues and concerns around animal welfare and the sustainability of small farms and food businesses in challenging economic times.

But it was the Interactive Pork Cut Guide that really caught my eye.

2009_03_18-pigcuts.jpgOne of the top features is the Pork Cut Guide in which a rather cute pig is shown eating in a field. By simply rolling your cursor over his various body parts, you can highlight a specific cut in red. A single click brings up a brief explanation and links to several recipes. An additional click brings up even more information, including a video featuring a proper butcher who patiently explains each cut. You can also cross-reference the cuts and recipes by cooking method such as roasting or grilling. If you love pork, this is one cool resource!

The website itself is a little confusing and it's easy to get lost, but it's worth the minor frustration for all the information to be gleaned. Besides the extensive explanation of pork, there are pages for chicken, beef, lamb, eggs, fish, rice and chocolate. And if all of this is too carnivorous, you can always check out their vegetarian section.

Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to view full episodes of the many intriguing food programs, as Channel4 does not offer catch-up viewing outside the British Isles. Curses!

That first picture certainly doesn't make me want to eat pork (I don't anyway). I just want to give that big pig a hug!

That pig looks so cute. I don't know if I've ever seen a pig in person, but they do some like very expressive animals from photos and videos I've seen. In other words, looking at a pig's face, you can see fear, happiness, contentment, or sadness.

That "cute" pig is probably upwards of 250 pounds. And they can be very dangerous, and can even kill you.

ugh sorry but i think pigs might be the least cute and possibly the grossest animals that show up at the meat counter. which is why i mostly don't eat pork, and feel gross when i do.
