Remember the first Meatrix? It was the wildly popular, animated spoof on the Matrix that got us all thinking twice about the meat we buy.
Now, there's a sequel... The Meatrix II: Revolting, and it will make you think twice about the dairy you buy.
Exposing the practices of factory dairy farms, it strips away our idyllic images of cows being milked by busty maids and butterflies fluttering about and paints a chilling portrait of life inside a real dairy farm. After you regain your composure and your stomach is back in working order, hope is offered.
It's not all bad news. There are still small family farms all over the country where you can get your dairy - by supporting them, you help end The Meatrix. The Meatrix website offers many practical ways to help out the cause and get involved, from how to buy local, to ways of spreading the word.
Love The Meatrix! Thanks!
The tricky thing about buying organic is that, though the name implies a universal standard, there are levels on how organic a place, that is labeled organic, actually is (or is not). There was a study they mentioned in the NYT a few weeks ago which rated dairy farms based on this. There's an interesting article here about Horizon, one of the top Organic milk producers in the country.
Those looking for real organic best avoid the dairy section of your legal megamart and seek out products like Evans Farmhouse, which not only tastes better, but is a small, locally owned (to Ny'ers) farm.

So, neither of my hyperlinks showed up. So here they are, in plain text.
