Sad News: COPIA in Napa Closes Due To Financial Troubles

2008_05_22-CopiaA.jpgI just learned that COPIA, Robert Mondavi's Center for Wine, Food, and Arts has closed. The reason: the economy. They just weren't making enough money to stay open. I visited there over the summer and had a lovely time. Between the kitchen gardens, the wine tasting exhibits, the farmer's market, and the Julia Child-themed restaurant, it was a wonderful place to visit.

The closing of COPIA is a big loss for downtown Napa. Napa has been hit hard by the current economic climate. Times are tough for epicureans, and the Oxbow Market may be affected, too.

Have any food stores or food-related places been closing down where you are?

My favorite vietnamese place closed down in Portland. I've been depressed about it for weeks and trying desperately to figure out their Banh Cuon marinade. *sob*
