This morning we wrote about President Obama's favorite tea, which actually comes pre-made in a bottle rather than loose in a tin. But if you do buy tea bags or leaves that come in pretty tins, this is one way to reuse them. It's a favorite image from an old issue of Domino, and since it folded, we wanted to highlight one of the many, many ideas the magazine gave us...
We think the tins in the photo came from Pearl River; that store carries shelves full of tiny, colorful, exotic tins, all of which are inexpensive. But plenty of teas are sold in beautiful tins that are the perfect size for holding a small bunch of flowers. And you can probably find vintage-looking ones at flea markets, too.
Isn't it a cheery image for a dreary winter day? Would be a great idea for a luncheon or baby shower—or just a little arrangement to brighten up a windowsill.

This might be really obvious, but I would recommend actually putting a small cup or vase inside the tins to hold the flowers. Water will end up rusting your pretty tins.

KidMoe, I was just thinking the same thing--everything I've ever done that involved a tea tin and water (including just having them in damp climates) has ended up with rusted tins.
I think I have the square one in the front, with the pink flowers. Mine had ginger flavored black tea in it, brought as a gift from Hong Kong many years back.

I was thinking the same thing, too. I can totally imagine putting a Spega yogurt jar inside a tea tin to get the look without making a mess.

That's the cutest idea! It would be fun for a baby shower or a tea party.
