The holiday season has officially begun, and as soon as Thanksgiving food coma wears off it's time to start planning parties.
Do you hold dinner or cocktail parties at home? Given your constraints of square feet, table leaves and chairs, and the adventure of cooking for a crowd, what's your ideal party size?

What's my ideal party size is a very different question from How many can I host at once... we had about 30 for Thanksgiving and set up tables in the living room, the dining room and the spare room (they're all open to one another, oddly enough). With a nicely set table and all the food on it as opposed to grab a plate and serve yourself I can have a very nice fancy dinner for 6-8 comfortably. After that it just gets more casual. Still fun either way though.

We just held a double birthday bash a couple of weeks ago and about 40 people showed up. And a band. It was a potluck, and not everybody could sit at once, but it wasn't much of a sitting party.

As long as it's all drinks and munchies (i.e. not a sit down dinner) about 20 is best if you still want to be able to move around. Which reminds me, I need to start checking in to see who will be in town for the christmas eve gathering.

I live in 620 square feet but somehow manage to get 20-25 people in my place for fetes! I'm sure it's a fire hazard but we always have a great time.
