Simple Chip 'n' Dip Plates from Crate and Barrel

We imagine the inventor of the chip 'n' dip plate sitting at home, stroking his patent, counting his money, and thinking, "Ha! And all I did was glue a bowl onto a platter."

True, this is a simple design. One that we frequently replicate with a bowl... set in a bigger bowl. But if we were going to buy a chip 'n' dip plate — not exactly the craziest idea, considering how many dips we serve at parties — these three are just our style...

These dishes serve their purpose without looking too cute. White or clear glass sets off vegetables beautifully and mixes with more sophisticated serving platters if, say, you are setting out a dip at a luncheon and not a barbecue.

The glass dish seems to have the deepest well in the center, making it a better bet for salsa and guacamole (the middle bowl is also removable). The other two could hold dip for sure, but you could also fill the middle with olives or nuts while you scatter other appetizers around the rest of the tray.

Why not let the chip 'n' dip perform beyond the limits of its name?

I really need to get something like this as I don't really have anything to serve snacks in and end up using my tupperware to set them out when we have people over. These are very good options.

FYI - I registered for two of the glass chip and dips, and on first (gentle) use, both of the pieces cracked.

I have the glass chip and dip and I love it. I've used it on several occations and really like the size and depth of the dip bowl. I don't have to put out a little salsa and then look to refill the bowl later, plus when I'm done all I have to do is throw some plastic wrap on top and stick it in the fridge.
