Last fall we catered a wedding for a friend. It was just a dessert reception, so we served bonbons, cookies, meringues, and ice cream. We served the ice cream in pleated paper soufflé cups, each with a flat wooden ice cream spoon tucked in. We wish we would have known about Paper + Cup Design's customizable spoons then!
Paper + Cup is a design group that does wedding invites, buttons, customized stationery, and now custom wood flatware too. These little ice cream spoons are very sweet - you can order them in packs of 50 or more. These would be great for more than a wedding - they could be fantastic at a birthday party or graduation.
• Customized wood ice cream spoons, $87.50 for 50
If you don't care about customization you can buy plain wood taster spoons online at the Webstaurant Store:
• 3.5" Wooden Taster Spoons, $13.49 for a box of 1000

They're adorable, but $1.75/spoon?! Yikes!

You could get the plain ones, and for about $10, get a custom rubber stamp made and customize the spoons yourself.

I hate to sound cheap, but . . . okay, I'm cheap. Ninety bucks for 50 wooden spoons is just nutty. For me, the bigger revelation is "souffle cups," which sounds better than what I've always called them: "nut cups."

This is a cute entry with good ideas. BUT - I have to say it -- There is a major grammatical mistake that is becoming more common but make the ends of my hair itch.
"We wish we would have known about Paper Cup Design's customizable spoons then!"
You are confusing conditional tense with subjunctive. It should say "We wish we HAD known abouit Paper Cup Design's...."
Don't hate me.

Is the thinking that guests will save the spoon? Does anyone hold on to wedding memoriabilia? I don't, but its never occurred to me to scrapbook either.

my absolute hatred for wooden spoons (for eating, not stirring) must be voiced! those wooden ice cream spoons give me the heebie jeebies so bad! I can't handle the texture! (Consequently I can't eat a popsicle down to the stick) And at 1.75 a spoon you could have a real spoon! Or a plastic spoon! Or, dear god anything but a horrid wooden one!

This seems like a pretty silly idea - they are so expensive, and not sustainable at all.
Disposables should be used sparingly, and to spend so much money on something that you are going to throw away (or others will throw away) is irresponsible.
