Giada De Laurentiis was on Oprah on Friday making easy appetizers for holiday parties. There were fried ravioli and gorgonzola crostini, but this cheese-and-chocolate combination had Oprah a little flummoxed. It was pretty funny...
She bit, she chewed, she grimaced, then smiled. Oprah really didn't know what to make of brie with chocolate. And poor Giada laughed and smiled and half-heartedly apologized—right as waiters started passing out panini to the entire audience. But after a few minutes Oprah decided that yes, yes, she liked it.
We were with Giada all along. Cheese and chocolate melted together sounds downright delicious to us. There's a sprig of basil in there, too, which feels a little out of place, but maybe it's the perfect fresh touch? We'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

I totally get the chocolate with the Brie, since Brie is so much like butter in my mind. But the basil? No no no. Doesn't go.

I like cheese and chocolate together (if it's a mild cheese like Brie) but she made it on sourdough bread which seems like a questionable flavor choice to me.
