One Use Tool: Silver Marrow Spoon

2007_11_01-Marrow.jpg

This silver marrow spoon is from the Market Manila blog. We were reminded of this one-use tool with the Minimalist's recipe yesterday for roast beef-marrow bones. This spoon is from the 1800's and designed for scooping that delicious marrow out of the bones - one-use, yes, but perfectly designed for its purpose. See a contemporary version after the jump.

This contemporary marrow scoop is $43 at Savoir Vivre. It hasn't changed much from the 1800's version!

You can also get horn versions of this highly specialized utensil for $52 at Bridge Kitchenware.

I'm sorry, but that sounds horrifically unappetizing.

Of course, this is coming from a vegetarian who also worked with cadavars last semester, sooo... I'll stick with my tofu.
