When these sculptural pepper grinders popped up in our inbox we went "Oooooohhhh...."
They are from Jabou Designs, a design group that creates these mills out of sustainably harvested wood from near their Santa Cruz, California, location. They have three separate lines of mills that combine architectural and sculptural sensibilities with advanced Danish ceramic grind mechanisms.
The three different lines of Peppermills that make up the series include the Urban (which also includes Saltmills), the Venetian and Les Baux collections. All are produced from wood dried a full 1-3 years before being handmade individually.
Needless to say, such craftsmanship does not run cheap. The peppermills in the top photo come in two heights, 6" and 11" and cost between $199 and $249. The peppermill pictured above is made from maple and wenge, is 11" tall and costs $299. The matching basting brush is $120-130. The peppermills below can be either 6" or 11" tall, and they run $139-249.

They're simply gorgeous, though, and we think that they might make a very beautiful and useful housewarming gift.

ange_lune - that's just Jabou's name for this particular line. Not sure why... maybe they look like skyscrapers?

For pepper mills that not only look good but also work well, I recommend Zassenhaus from Germany. They are great and work - at least in my opinion - way better then Peugeots.
