New Pirate Ship Cake Pan and More from Nordicware

Cake-Display.jpgOK, we said we were done with the Housewares show coverage, but we still had one more show-centered chunk of photos to show you. The Nordicware booth! Bakers rejoice - we have up-close photos of all those pretty specialty pans from Nordicware that are carried at Williams-Sonoma, Sur La Table, and other retailers. We wandered through their booth and looked at the real life versions of cakes baked in those pans.

The big new pan this year is the Nordicware Pirate Ship! According to Chef's Resource, one of the Nordicware owner's sons is going through a pirate phase. Lucky for all of you pirate aficionados.

Watch the slideshow for more specialty cake pans than you can handle.

Here are a couple other pans we've mentioned in the past:

Fun Product: Nordicware Castle Cake Pan
Holiday Baking: Turkey Pan from Williams-Sonoma

What did you think of the pirate pan? It's big - the perfect size for a giant birthday with a dozen kids running around. We were impressed by the solid chocolate molded version! It's new for 2008 and you can buy it at Amazon.

I have the octopus, I made a bright red super squiggly two tiered jello concoction in it that was loved by all, for the anti jello brand people there is always panna cotta which tastes an awful lot like jello melted ice cream to me. Anyway to each his own, if you want to try this just spray the pan down with PAM or some other equivalent before adding the gelatin.

Jello!! I would not have thought of using one of these for gelatin-based desserts. Thanks for the tip - I'm glad to know it works!

In my fantasy life where I am affluent and constantly going to/hosting parties, I would have so many of these pans.

But really, it would be cool if someone would start a sort of rental system for unusual cake pans and other highly specialized cooking equipment. I'd much rather pay for a single use and return it than have to deal with ebay.

Renata - there are some public libraries out there that offer cake pans for checkout! You should see if a library near you would be interested in doing that.

Does anyone know how you might go about making a chocolate ship. I imagine it's not as easy as just melting a ton of chocolate and pouring it in... Thoughts?

The Fruity Pebble butterfly reminds me of "cakes" my mom used to make out of rice cereal treats. Peanut butter rice cereal treats covered with chocolate ganache, yum!
