New Le Creuset Color: Slate Available at Williams-Sonoma

2008_07_01-Creuset.jpgIt looks like grey is officially the hot color of the year in cookware, what with Staub's limited edition titanium and graphite, and now Le Creuset's slate grey available exclusively at Williams-Sonoma.

2008_07_01-Creuset2.jpgThese Dutch ovens are made of cast iron with a nonreactive enamel coating that requires no seasoning. These are also dishwasher safe. As always, Le Creuset pots are made in France.

As expensive as Le Creuset is, we have to admit it's worth it. One of these Dutch ovens will be your go-to pot for everything. We braise, sear, simmer, boil, and bake in our Dutch oven, and it's almost never put away in the cupboard.

We like this grey a lot; it's clean and cool and neutral. What do you think? Do you like this trend of grey (or gray?) in cookware colors?

Ugh...this just irritates me. All I want in life is a PINK Le Creuset. Honestly who purposefully buys a $200 grey pot? It looks like it belongs in the opening sequence to The Wizard of Oz.

It reminds me of a pot in a black and white movie: so flat and grey. It would be fun in a high concept black and white kitchen, but a little blah for my bright house.

Most of the other Le Creuset colors work together if you're doing a mixed set. I don't think this would fit in with the other bright colors. It would work maybe with their Dune and discontinued white, discontinued Granite and black, and maybe the Kiwi or Cherry Red thrown in as an accent.

I understand the need for this as some people don't care for the bright colors and want a minimalist look in a stainless, white or black kitchen. For me, the whole beauty of Le Creuset is their bright, gorgeous, cheerful colors. This is just so dreary.

I much prefer the Staub Graphite if I had to choose a gray, as I love the dark gray highlights in the lettering and rings, the speckling, and the glossy glaze. This is just plain blah! Look for this soon in the outlets as a discontinued color!

I think I need to see it in person before I judge. I find that greys vary greatly in terms of shades and tones. I like the grey in the first picture on the stove top. but I don't like the way it looks in the second picture--it seems flat and dull.

I have a grey set! Which I swear look just like these, but I've had mine for years. I love it and there have been envious comments... (which I mention just to speak up for the colour). I also have some blue (in a blue, grey and white kitchen) and I think they go well together. The food comes out well anyhow.

I just saw this at Williams Sonoma and it does look prettier in person. The cover has a lot of shading that you don't see in the photo. It shades from a medium deep grey to a medium light grey. It has small speckles too where you see small specs of a deeper grey from where they sprayed it. A nice effect. It also has a nice glow to it, looking a touch metallic. It is pretty in person, but it really doesn't go with the other colors if you're the type that wants several pieces in different bright colors. It would mix well with the Dune, Black Satin, and Cherry Red. Williams Sonoma showed it with the Dune, and their Azure Blue.

Mmm...Love it. Timeless in my opinion and would go great with mahogany and slate tile. Do I sense a giveaway? One can always dream.

Hmm. Enamal cast iron that looks like cheap aluminum. Sonoma can package anything and people will snatch it up.
