Look! A New Use for a Tabasco Bottle

2008_10_20-TabascoBottle.jpgYou know we're big fans of Tabasco in these here parts, but we'd never thought of using the bottle! What's this one doing?

This picture comes from a cake-making class we attended a while back, and the golden confection in the picture above is none other than angel food cake. This is a highly delicate cake that gets its only leavening from stiffly beaten egg whites. It puffs up magnificently in the oven, but then needs to cool upside down to prevent the crumb from collapsing.

Usually, the cake pans for angel food come with "feet" around the rim to hold it above the counter. Otherwise, you can use a funnel inserted into the cake pan's middle tube. In our case, we had neither and could only find this bottle of Tabasco. The thin neck of the bottle fit just perfectly in the middle tube.

And yes, the cake was scrumptious!
