Good Product: Chocolate Shaver

While we generally try to avoid kitchen uni-taskers, most of us have a small stash of specialized tools. They are different from kitchen to kitchen, varying by cooking style and focus. Well, if you're a baker or a chocoholic, here's a uni-tasker for you.

This Chocolate Shaver ($16.95, Sur La Table) makes short work of curling and slivering your chocolate. It's easier than the other method for making chocolate curls that we showed you because this shaver is adjustable - from razor-thin to .13" for just the right thickness and delicacy of your chocolate shavings.

And actually - this isn't quite a uni-tasker! It shaves truffles and Parmesan too.

It's like a sort of pocket mandoline! Knowing me, I'd run all sorts of veggies through it just to see how they shaved up. ;D

I've had one of these for years. I use it for everything from slicing superthin potatoes or beets for frying to shaving garlic. I'm not much of a chocolate person, but I'm glad to know that it can be used for that as well.

A friend brought me a wooden truffle shaver from Italy years ago (sans truffle). Perhaps it's time to put it to use.
