This De Buyer Mandoline Rouet from Williams-Sonoma is calling out to us. We like the idea of shaving all these fall vegetables - squash, zucchini, eggplant - into elegant spiral strips. We've recommended the less pricy Benriner Mandoline in the past, and we stand by that, but this model has a rotating spiral pusher (pictured) that makes its $65 price tag justified, perhaps. Just look at that pretty heap of vegetables!
Do you own a mandoline?

I would love one but my kitchen is so tiny that I dont have the room to justify the purchase.

I got one of the Japanese ones for Xmas - love it! It's perfect for recipes where presentation matters, and you want little piles of perfectly rectangular cucumber pieces. Might be superfluous for the small kitchen, as you could do the same thing with a chef's knife and a LOT of patience.

I just checked out the website, and the $65 price tag doesn't actually include the mandoline, just the attachment to make spirals. You would need to purchase a mandoline to go with this little gadget. Now it seems a little pricey.

Although I've loved OXO products in the past, their mandoline is not good. The amazon reviews of the mandoline are correct, it has a hard time making smooth cuts of everything but long, straight, hard veggies. You end up mashing your way through food. I'll be returning it shortly directly to OXO.
It looks like the company has realized this as well, as they have released a new mandoline with a "v-slicer" blade as opposed to the straight edge version I have.
