Chef'n Palm Peeler

2007_02_29-Peeler.jpgWith so many peelers on the market, you wouldn't think a new design would really be noteworthy, especially since OXO already makes a peeler that The Kitchn adores.

But the Palm Peeler is a little square disk that holds a lot of potential, particularly for kid cooks, or anyone who can't grip a handle well.

Slip the peeler over your finger like a ring, so it sits in your palm. Then use a scrubbing motion to do the peeling. You'll have more control over the tool, with no awkward maneuvering. Since you're using the strength of your whole hand to peel, fingers are less likely to cramp up. Perhaps the Palm Peeler's best application is in thick-skinned produce like pumpkins. The extra strength and control of your palm means you can easily cut through the skin quickly and neatly.

And since it costs less than $5, there's no reason it can't coexist peacefully with the OXO in your utensil drawer.

I have one of these, along with a few others, and this is the one I use.

I love this little peeler. It is the only one that I use, too.

I have one of these. I prefer my OXO peeler if they're both clean, but love having another clean one to use that takes very little room. Also, if I was doing a lot of peeling, I would use this more ergonomic one.

I didn't know you were supposed to use a scrubbing motion with this - I've been using it like a peeler.

Oh, I missed that about the scrubbing motion. I'll have to try it.

I'm not too into this peeler as I still love my Zyliss peeler and I found this one awkward for my hand. However, I really like the Palm Brush which uses the same technology for a Veggie Brush. It makes doing a bunch of potatoes so much easier as you just slip the brush on and go at it.
