My girlfriend and I tried the grapefruit ice cream this weekend, despite the nonstop rainy drizzle here in Chicago. It was delicious! And, I thought, creative enough to intrigue while still having the familiar comfort combo of chocolate and fruit. Yum!
I hope people keep posting who are actually trying these recipes.
Me = no ice cream maker.
I'd also love to hear from people on the subject of - Ice cream Experiments/Failures/Partial Successes/What I'd 'tweak' for next time...
For those (of us) who experimented and did not have time to finalize entries, but did have interesting experiences/flavor combos etc. Mine? No ice cream maker, but I did have success (needed a slight adjustment for next time) with rhubard &rose petal sorbet.
Way to go Arin!
I made the basil ice cream last weekend, and it was heavenly! Just the right balance of flavors, interesting, and the cacao nibs kept the chocolate from being overpowering. I'm a huge fan.
hey leeds, vanilla cucumber ice cream was my first attempt at ice cream ever (and i'm very happy that i had the opportunity to share it with other people) and it started me off on an ice cream making jag. last week i tried dark chocolate with chili peppers, soaking the chili peppers in the milk instead of adding bits to the ice cream where it seemed like it might be unpleasant. it's cool going down with a spicy finish. i think it needs something else though so candied dried orange will make it into the next go round. next experiments: carrot cardomom ice cream and fennel pastis with a chocolate ribbon.
Abby-cool! Your combinations sound really good. Great idea the dark chocolate with the chili peppers (+ candied orange); let us know how it works!
I also thought about using carrot (hadn't thought of cardamom, which I adore: you're good!)
Next summer, I want to try a sorbet with tomatoes, something more savory than sweet maybe, what do you think? Love your cucumber idea btw.
I did make soy & dark chocolate from a recipe, it was good, but I'm a soy products fan.
Abby, please do report on how your new flavors come out-esp. the chocolate, chile, candied orange. That sounds outrageously good.
Very cool Arin!
