Survey: How Do You Clean Your Kitchen Floor?

2007_05_23-Mop.jpgSometimes we feel like we're in a losing fight with our kitchen to keep our floors clean. With cream-colored tile that shows every little spot, and a rather energetic cooking style, it's a constant struggle to get our floors nice and shiny. And yet it's worth it - a clean floor, with nothing crunchy underfoot, is right next to a spotless cooktop in making us feel great about our kitchen.

How do you keep your kitchen floor clean? Are you a committed mop wielder? Or do you like to scrub by hand? Or some newfangled invention? Tell us!

actually, most of the time i just vacuum up the dust and crumbs, and then mop maybe once a month, when the grunge becomes visible.

Unfortunately right now my kitchen floors are carpet. Previous owner, there is no WAY that she cooked, at least not often. So it's a vacuum and shampooer for me. The bathroom floor is done with a scrub brush and hands and knees so that's probably more accurate for this survey.

i answered "Mop, bucket and/or Swiffer", but i actually vacuum it more often than mopping.

Should the mop & bucket people be lumped in with the Swiffer people? I realize they're not THAT different, but they're not exactly the same thing.

We have had the Method Home o-mop for a couple of months now and I absolutely LOVE it. We have two different washable microfiber heads for it - one for hardwood and one for all surfaces. The all surface cleaner is lemon-ginger scented and the wood is almond scented. Our place is old and gets very dusty, and this stuff really does a good job of keeping things clean.

I use the Method O-Mop for quick cleaning, but I actually get on my hands and knees and scrub with a brush once a month or so to get it super clean. Fortunately, my kitchen isn't too big, about 8x16.

Like a couple others above, I vacuum the kitchen floor often. Then I mop once in a while - I also have a throw rug that gets most of my drips, and I wash that in a washing machine really often.

I sweep like once a week and I mop once a month. My Kitchen isnt that big so its easy to keep it up.

I sweep with a broom everyday - sometimes twice a day or more - clean up spills immediately and mop one a month. My kitchen is small and the I choose dark burgundy tiles for the floor, and that's great. When I had a kitchen with cream coloured floors, it was a nightmare. I kept cleaning and yet it looked ugly and spotty after just a minute.

I vacuum often & use the Hoover floor mate (I swear by this thing) every 2 weeks or so. I also will get down on my hands and knees every six months to get it really clean.

I was not satisfied with mops/swifter/vaccum. Hate storing them and they don't do corners.
I have wood floor and use damp rags (wet paper towels if feeling lazy) with vinegar water.

Damp paper towels do great job of picking up dust and grit and encourage instant cleanup making for easier cleanup.

We (mostly my boyfriend, to be honest) sweep about weekly and mop about monthly, sometimes less. I feel a little dirty now. But we do use a mop and bucket, somehow a swifter is not the same.
