• What's Cooking at Housing Works: This weekend Housing Work's 23rd Street store will feature the pick of their second-hand kitchen items, including aprons, utensils, cookware and more. The even will be held 10 a.m.-6 p.m on Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, 157 East 23rd St.
• Kitchen Confidence: Help someone else learn there way around the kitchen. Tell them about chef Brendan McDermott's introduction to cooking concepts including basic cooking techniques, terminology, knife skills, and food safety information. The class will conclude with Chef McDermott demonstrating a recipe using the techniques and tips. Class will be held on July 31 at 6:30 p.m., $35, 616 Lorimer St., Brooklyn.
• A Silver Palate Picnic at the Strand: The Silver Palate Cookbook was first published in 1982, offering stylish but easy recipes that helped to inspire interest in quality cooking. Sheila Lukins will host a picnic at the Stand to celebrate the 25th Anniversary edition of the book.
Also this Wednesday the 18th is a wonderful event that benefits Just Food and the Sylvia Center. It is a 100 Mile Menu event catered by Great Performances Kitchen and will have tons of tasty food from within 100 miles of NYC. There will also be hands on demonstrations.
