READING & GOURMET TWINKIE TASTING
TO CELEBRATE
TWINKIE, DECONSTRUCTED
When: Tonight (3/15/07), 7-9pm
Where: McNally Robinson Bookstore, 52 Prince Street at Lafayette
** ABC-TVs NIGHTLINE WILL BE FILMING AT THE EVENT**
Following the reading, there will be a Twinkie Tasting of commercial and homemade versions of the famous snack cake and complimentary Champagne!
A preview of the home-made Twinkie treats that will be served at the event:
An organic whole-wheat based, naturally sweetened, trans fat and cholesterol-free, vegan version of the Twinkie, created for the occasion by veteran culinary instructor, author, and recipe developer Fran Costigan (More Great Good Dairy Free Desserts Naturally).
An absolutely traditional gourmet sponge cake with creamy filling by none other than the famed 3-star, Zagat favorite, Gramercy Taverns pastry chef Nancy Olson, whose desserts have been hailed by New York Times restaurant critics William Grimes and Frank Bruni as well as Gourmet Magazine. You can count on this one being made with all the eggs, butter, and cream missing from the packaged version.
I guess it's not quite a cooking related event per se, but food is involved.
