Slow Food and Il Buco will host their annual outdoor pig and apple festival on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant (47 Bond Street between Lafayette and Bond) next Wednesday, September 21st, from 1 to 7 p.m.
The event features Heritage Pork from North Carolina and just harvested New York State Apples in dishes like Barbeque Roast Pork, Porchetta Panini, Apple Pork Sausage and Apple Ricotta Fritters. (Tastings are $7 each.)
Heritage meats, like their vegetable-kingdom cousins, heirloom tomatoes, are old strains of rare animal breeds that are being brought back by independent farmers using traditional methods (hormones and chemical pesticide free).
Consider it something to tide you over on your way home (to cook dinner, of course) from work.
