The Tea Lady: Part II, Green Tea

Our visiting tea correspondent continues today with her favorite green tea...

2006_04_14 the du hammam.jpgGreen tea is more astringent and refreshing than Black tea, and is an ideal refresher when you’re on the move. It is rich in antioxidants and is a tea to drink for mental energy and contemplation.

My current favourite is Thé du Hammam, from Palais des Thes, the rival to the French luxury tea chain Mariage Freres.

Made from a blend of green tea-leaves flavored with orange blossoms, rose petals, red fruits and green dates, this traditional Turkish tea is one of the freshest lightest green teas I’ve ever had, with no bitterness, and a subtle taste of roses.

I got into Japanese Green tea served in cans (like Coke!) when working in Tokyo - now living in London they have stuck the nutritional value chart on the cans I buy and the Pokka Green Tea as nothing in it: no sugar, no carbohydrates, no sodium etc. Just antioxidants I guess, there is no reading on the can...

I go to the amazing T Salon on 19th and broadway. They have so much stuff and they'll open all the jars for you to smell. Amazing.
