Outside Month: What's Your Favorite Outside Drink?

2007_06_11-Drinks.jpgAs the temperature climbs we are thinking about sitting outside somewhere with a cool breeze, and with a pitcher of something frosty cold close by. Maybe some Hibiscus Iced Tea or a little Hendrick's with lime, cucumber and soda.

What's your favorite drink for sipping outside? Whether you're hanging out on the fire escape, rocking on an old-fashioned front porch swing, or lounging in the hammock, what do you like to drink when it's hot and sunny?

We're looking to expand our repertoire of summer drinks so share your favorites below!

This probably falls under 'cocktails' but nothing, NOTHING, beats a Bombay Sapphire and Tonic. My close runner-up , and non-booze, favorite is Limeade.

mmm....I answered lemonade, but a nice cold Bombay Sapphire and Tonic is great when thirst isn't isn't the only thing you're quenching!

I checked "something else" but really should have checked cocktails. In many situations, ice water with lemon or some iced green tea is perfect, but if I'm just hanging out in the evening, my favorite is a mojito with mint from our garden. Short of that, a gin and tonic with lime gets pretty close.

I love hanging out on my fire escape with a nice cocktail. I'm mostly a wine drinker, but in these warmer months there's nothing better than ending the day with a good mojito or a Campari and soda.

Iced tea, preferably with a little mint.

Hibiscus Mint iced tea is a very popular local drink here. I usually cheat by buying a packet of Jamaica drink mix from the Mexican section of the grocery store and mixing in white grape juice to sweeten it.

Trader Joe's sells great Limeade and some of that (with ice) can cool me off any day. Also lately have been mixing their very nice but overly sweet fruit juices 50/50 with soda water and they are the perfect combo.

Some sort of homemade smoothie. Ususally with strawberries. Yum!

I'm all about the Arnold Palmer this summer (half lemonade, half iced tea). YUM!

the non-alcoholic something would be water with mint & limes squeezed into it, a trick learned from a korean friend; the alcoholic something would be white sangria or a capirinha or yup, count me in when you're pouring those bombay sapphires & tonic.

what is it about limes in a drink in the summer that makes a drink so refreshing?

I find that there's nothing more refreshing than a cold bottle of soda water. I drink liters and liters of the stuff during the summer! The bubbles make me happy :-)

Mmmm I agree stoat: fizzy water hits the spot.

That and iced tea: though only the unsweetened kind please.

I'm also a limeade fan, and I recently made a cocktail created by Ming Tsai called the Blue Ginger Gimlet, which incorporates a ginger syrup with lime and vodka. The ginger syrup is ridiculously easy to make, and you toss the used ginger in sugar afterwards for some homemade crystallized ginger candy. Excellent!

I'm a big fan of either a nice chilled dry rose or a Vermouth Cassis.

All I can think about right now is how good a cherry limeade from Sonic sounds right now, or a Quicktrip Coolie. Drive in resturants with slushies, limeades, and shakes abound in Oklahoma. I never lived more than 3 min away from a yummy frosty summer beverage till I moved to Cali. The closest Sonic is in Anaheim! I wish LA would ditch the pinkberry's and bring me some slushies.

Generally it depends on my mood but on a hot day after something extrenuous, sometimes a good cold, but good, not cheap beer, can do wonders, other times it's water or lemonade

I love frozen mochas and enjoy sipping those on a hot day and sitting in the shade. Sweet tea is also a favorite of mine!!
