This weather is ridiculous. With a belly that is now fulfilling the cliché and sporting basketball-like proportions, the heat is especially oppressive. First thing this morning I was greeted with intense hunger, and yet a very full, hot feeling.
So, inspired by yesterday's thread on the Saving Overly Ripe Fruit post, I whizzed me up a smoothie with the frozen raspberries and bananas in my freezer. Satisfied, nourished, and slightly cooled off, I went down for a nap.
Easy Cooling Smoothie for Hot Mornings
makes one pint-sized serving
1 cup soy or regular milk
1/2 cup frozen fruit, or mixed fruits
Pureé milk with fruit in a blender until completely smooth. Pour into glass and enjoy.

I also like to add just one or two ice cubes and a bit of flaxseed to my smoothie. Adds the essential fatty acids, a bit of fibre and the ice cubes tend to make it thicker without adding any more calories or fat.
Man alive I'm hungry now! ;-)
That's been my breakfast almost every day since spring. You might also like a protein powder sold at Trader Joe's, 'Aria'. It's half whey and half soy, and it dissolves completely, while adding a nice bit of protein.
Today's shake was soy milk, a little kefir, frozen banana, 2 scoops Aria and a few walnuts.
I make mine with a little juice, banana/frozen strawberries/blueberries, ice, and a raw egg--obviously raw eggs are a health risk, but delicious and filling! I use organic free-range fresh eggs. Much nicer on a hot day than a fried egg...
