Good For Warm Weather: Sparkling Sodas

2008_05_21-SparklingSodas.jpgWhen the weather gets warm, we love drinking these light, sparkling, non-alcoholic sodas made with cane sugar (no high fructose corn syrup!) and natural flavors. See inside for more information ...

Here are three picks that we like:

Grown-Up Soda (GUS): with yummy flavors like Dry Meyer Lemon, Star Ruby Grapefruit, and Dry Pomegranate, these fruity, bubbly spritzers are great on a hot day after working in the garden.

Vignette Wine Country Soda: In three wine grape flavors (pinot noir, chardonnay, and rosé) these non-alcoholic concoctions are perfect for a picnic basket with some cheese, olives, and charcuteries.

DRY Soda Company: Thomas Keller's French Laundry restaurant serves these sodas, which come in the following essences: Lavender, Lemongrass, Rhubarb, and Kumquat. So good!

I don't know if they still make it, but Clearly Canadian used to make a dry sparkling ginger lemonade. It was fantastic, but I haven't seen it in years.

We love GUS, have been drinking it for years now.... I buy it by the case from the Fresh Market. I wish they would get more distribution into other stores. I buy the Meyer Lemon, Dry Pomegranate and Cranberry Lime.

I sorely miss POMPELMO (Grapefruit) - Trader Joes discontinued it.

I've tried Hansen's Grapefruit but it just aint' the same.

Any suggestions?

Oddly enough, Safeway brand grapefruit soda is really good. I never had the TJs stuff, though, so I don't know how it compares. It's drier than Squirt, if I remember correctly.

On my last adventure to Trader Joe's (the closest is a two hour drive away) I discovered the Trader Joe's Refreshers. They are wonderful in blueberry, tangerine and pomegrante. Truly a blessing for me as I've given up caffeine and high fructose corn syrup ... sometimes I just want something more than water to drink!

My kids sucked up a pack of Trader Joe Pom flavor and are begging for more. I had a taste and it was very good.
